Flights between Bangkok and Hong Kong have been particularly loaded with Thai politicians lately. They have also been flying to the same destination, a hotel where ousted prime minister Thakin Shinawatra _ the man believed to be playing a pivotal role in the forming of the coalition government under the People Power party _ has been frequenting.

Observers say key figures of the PPP and its coalition partners have been meeting the deposed prime minister over the allocation of cabinet portfolios and the voting of PPP leader Samak Sundaravej as the country’s 25th prime minister tomorrow.
Mr Thaksin, leader of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai, moved to Hong Kong from his base in Britain several weeks ago to make it easier for visitors to meet him. One of the most prominent visitors was Warawuth Silpa-archa, son of Chart Thai leader Banharn, who said he went to Hong Kong with his wife for shopping and took the opportunity to meet Mr Thaksin as well. ”I did go to Hong Kong. I also bumped into a large number of PPP MPs in a hotel,” he said. He gave assurances on his party’s behalf that Chart Thai MPs would support a person nominated for the premiership by the PPP.
Just flying back from Hong Kong was Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, a former Thai Rak Thai executive. She and some Bangkok politicians close to her will have dinner together this evening. A source said they will discuss ways to push some of her confidants into cabinet seats.
Puea Pandin’s key figures, such as Preecha Laohapongchana and Vatchara Pannachet, were also seen boarding flights to Hong Kong, presumably to meet Mr Thaksin. PPP spokesman Kudep Saikrajang said all the MPs will gather for a briefing at party headquarters before they leave for parliament to vote for Mr Samak as prime minister. Mr Kudep is confident all the other coalition members would also vote in favour of Mr Samak. He denied rumours that faction members within the PPP, particularly northeastern MPs, were pressing hard for more cabinet posts. As the pendulum has swung back in PPP’s favour, which is largely made up of former Thai Rak Thai members, several military officers _ mostly former Class 10 members at the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School _ have also been visiting Mr Thaksin.

達辛先生從1月1日至2月7日前會很辛苦，所有指証都不利于他，但卻沒事。也不利回泰國，但不會有危險。
2008年可說是官司滿身的一年，除了泰國再有國喪，要不2009年，他可是自由身了。

Ousted PM to return home in May : PojamanKhunying Pojaman Shinawatra said her husband will end his self-imposed exile and return home in May to face corruption charges.

Pojaman made the statement when appearing before the Supreme Court on charges that she used her husband’s political influence to buy a Rachadapisek land from a government agency at a third of its estimated value.
During the brief first hearing, Pojamarn pleaded not guilty and asked the court for 90 days in which to prepare documents and witnesses to buttress her defence. The court agreed and set the date of the next hearing on April 29. Pojamarn returned to Thailand earlier this month, a trip Thaksin claimed she could reunite with her children. A court statement also said that Thaksin would return in May to fight the same charges as his wife. Thaksin and Pojaman are formally charged with abuses of power in the 2003 purchase of the plot of land in central Bangkok from the Financial Institutions Development Fund, a government agency set up to bail out debt-ridden banks. An anti-corruption law bars prime ministers or their spouses from doing business with government agencies. Pojamarn also faces charges in connection with a case alleging that she and Thaksin concealed millions of dollarsworth of shares in SC Asset, the family’s real estate holding company.

（曼谷21日综合电）泰国国王普密蓬周日签署御令，批准在去年12月23日大选及随后补选中产生的国会下议院于周一召开第一次会议。
普密蓬国王在御令中说，去年12月23日的国会下议院选举迄今已经产生宪法规定的议员数，宪法规定国会下议院第一次会议必须在大选后30天内举行。
泰国王储玛哈会在阿南达宫主持下议院第一次会议并发表讲话。
泰国的新国会今天下午正式开议，上周人民力量党党主席萨玛与为国党、泰国党等6个政党宣布正式组成联合政府，新的内阁名单将在2周内底定。
在今天的开议仪式中，人民力量党已经决定推出清莱府出身的杨育斯角逐国会议长宝座，虽然杨育斯目前仍因为违反选举法遭到中选会调查，不过如果没有意外，杨育斯应该可以顺利当选。
按照程序，泰国会下议院在周一正式成立后，于周二22日开会选举议长，在周五（25日）的会议上议长将就首相人选征询议员的意见，会议还将就首相人选进行表决。首相人选得到国王批准后，应立即展开内阁人选确定工作，并提请国王批准。
在泰国去年12月23日举行的国会下议院选举中，人民力量党获得下议院480个议席中的233席，成为国会第一大党。该党已于本月19日与另5个中小政党一泰国党、为国党、中庸民主党、泰人同心发展国家党和人民党联合组建新一届政府，并在国会控制了大约2/3的席位。
人民力量党由前首相他信领导的泰爱泰党“转化”而来。在泰爱泰党遭解散后，包括人民力量党现任党魁萨马在内的不少核心党员加入了人民力量党，人民力量党也由一个名不见经传的党派成为泰国议会的第一大党。
在6党宣布联合执政之后，在泰国议会中占据第二多席位的民主党成为了唯一的反对党。

泰国昨天在7个府举行国会大选补选，补选结果凌晨揭晓，人民力量党大获全胜，在16个席次中，赢回14席，为国党拿下2席，民主党则也斩获了一席。

Sonthi fights back

The Sept 19, 2006 coup maker and junta leader Sonthi Boonyaratkalin has warned ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra not do anything to make the people angry and force them to take to the streets again. Gen Sonthi did not go into detail.
Gen Sonthi, former army chief and head of the Council for National Security (CNS) – now Deputy Prime Minister – issued a veiled warning to Mr Thaksin that his return could trigger more street protests if he repeats the mistakes he made before the coup. Back in 2006, when he headed the army, Gen Sonthi overthrew Mr Thaksin’s government amid allegations of abuse of administrative authority, corruption and lese majeste. “If he makes the same mistakes, people will demonstrate against him in the streets again,” Gen Sonthi said in an interview with the Bangkok Post. Mr Thaksin has promised to stay clear of politics after he returns to the country and instead focus on fighting corruption charges against him. The former prime minister has spent most of his time in London since the coup, and plans to return to the country by mid-April. Gen Sonthi said the People Power party would be wise to learn from the mistakes made by Mr Thaksin. The Thaksin-backed PPP won the most seats in the Dec 23 general election and has now formed a six-party coalition government. Gen Sonthi conceded that the popularity of the PPP, which won more than 230 seats, surprised the CNS. “We knew it would win because it had everything. But seeing the number of seats the party won, it was beyond our expectations,” he said. However, the party should bear in mind that it does not have the support of most of the people as it won less than 50% of the 480 seats in the House, he added. Gen Sonthi said he was confident that Mr Thaksin was not a vengeful man. “I believe in Pol Lt-Col Thaksin’s good character. But I am not quite so sure about other people,” he said. However, the deputy prime minister said he had no regrets about staging the coup and had never thought it was a mistake. “The coup was unavoidable because of the divisions in the country, the interference in independent organisations, the lese majeste charges and the lack of confidence in the leadership. “I had to do it. The seizure of power was not a waste of time,” he said. He did not rule himself out of politics, but the decision would depend on the situation after the PPP forms the government. If the same problems crop up under the PPP administration, he may decide to re-enter politics. “I don’t want politics to be seen as bad and dirty. If people think that way, the new generation will turn their backs on politics and good people will refuse to work for the country,” he said. Gen Sonthi was appointed a deputy prime minister after retiring as army commander in September last year. He was placed in charge of national security and tasked with cracking down on vote buying in the Dec 23 election. He plans to visit Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Dubai to promote relations with the Muslim world at the end of this month.
